Four teams hunt two semi-final spots in Manning Cup

The two remaining spots in the semi-finals of the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup competition will be filled when the remaining four semi-finals are played at the Constant Spring and Prison Oval fields today.

At 1:00pm a straight shoot-out between Zone K leaders Camperdown High and Hydel High will determine who goes on to face defending champions Jamaica College who qualified last week.

Camperdown leads the group with six points after wins over Kingston College and St.Jago and can afford a draw to advance, while Hydel who beat Kingston College 2-0 after a 1-1 draw with St.Jago must win to make it to the last four.

Both teams have had a week to prepare and are expected to go at each other from the opening whistle.
Camperdown has been improving steadily during the season and the experienced Andre McCatty has led the line admirably.

The strike duo of Stephen Barnett and Nicholas Nelson has been banging in the goals for Hydel this term and they will need to be sharp today to get their team past a stubborn Camperdown defence.

Based on the form of these two teams and the way they match up, the result could go either way, but the edge must go to Camperdown as a draw could see them through.

The other game in the group will be played at 1:00pm at Constant Spring between already eliminated Kingston College and St. Jago High.

Charlie Smith who lead Group I on goal difference and Inswood High both sit on four points and will be vying for the last spot come 3:00pm. They will face Vauxhall High and Norman Manley High respectively.

Charlie Smith has the easier game on paper, having beaten their opponents earlier in the season, but will take nothing for granted at the Prison Oval.

Inswood will not be writing off their own chances of advancing and will certainly be going all out against a tough Norman Manley at Constant Spring for three points and lots of goals.

ISSA is sure to pay keen attention to today’s results following the goal fest last week Wednesday.
