The LIME Super Cup quarter final between Wolmers and St Georges at the National Stadium was always going to be a thrilling match. The second match of the double header held at the National Stadium on Saturday certainly lived up to expectations.

The two who have been playing well this season in all competitions, have a lot of supporters, most of who turned out to witness the encounter. This forced the organizers to open the bleachers as the grandstand was filled to capacity long before kick-off.

Wolmer’s started like a confident bunch and striker Jaheel Hyde looked energetic up front. Hyde saw his powerfully shot in the 3rd minute blocked by the St Georges College defense as Wolmer’s slowly took control of the game.

Joshua McNaughty received a ball in the 16th minute inside the box and he stayed composed to put the ball beyond Cardell Irving to give Wolmers the lead.

Shevon Stewart played a through-ball to Amoy Brown in the 20th minute but the prolific striker’s first touch, for once let him down and Wolmers was able to rebuild from the back.

The St Georges College defense had trouble with the pace of Hyde who was finding it easy to get around his marker. and you could sense he was going to score before the end of the half. Hyde did come close to scoring when he left two defenders in his wake and got off a shot that went just past the upright.

Amoy Brown met a cross from the left hand side and it was well saved by Dane Lee who tipped it over the cross bar. Gregory Messam Junior delivered a corner kick that was cleared off the line by the Wolmer’s defense as the Sky Blues pushed for the equalizer.

Hyde got his first of the evening and gave Wolmer’s a two goal advantage in the 30th minute. The striker used his pace to get by three defenders and found his way into the box where he made no mistake by picking his spot past Irving.

St George’s College came out looking more confident in the second half but with the Heroe’s Circle based school defending well, it proved difficult for the North Street based school.

Wolmer’s who always looked purposeful going forward had a couple of half chances but failed to convert.

Rojay Smith saw his effort from 20 yards saved by Irving in the 65th minute. Hyde was still full of pace with 15 minutes of normal time remaining. As soon as St. Georges looked as if they were finding a rhythm Hyde scored his second to put the game to bed in the 79th minute. Hyde ran from the left hand side of the eighteen yard box to the right hand side before firing a right footed shot that flew past Irving.

The STGC fans streamed out of the stadium as the Wolmer’s supporters celebrated a famous win.

Wolmer’s will go up against surprise team Holy Trinity in the semifinals at the same venue on Saturday.
