Holy Trinity demolish Garvey Maceo in LIME Super Cup

In the first match of the double header held at the National Stadium on Saturday in the Lime Super Cup, Holy Trinity easily outclassed the much vaunted Garvey Maceo in a comprehensive 4-0 win. The contest was expected to be a lot closer after Garvey Maceo’s dominant display over Charlie Smith in the previous round but Holy Trinity produced a sterling performance to advance to the semi-finals.

The Grandstand that was used to accommodate the spectators was almost full to capacity, by the time the game gout underway more than half hour after the scheduled time.

Holy trinity started out confidently and they got their first shot of the game inside five minutes but it went wide of the target. Both teams were giving up possession easily and there was not much for the fans of both teams to cheer about.

Garvey Maceo captain, Ryan Scott, played a brilliant through-ball to Roshane Sharpe got the fans rising to their feet but it was well defended by the Holy Trinity. Jamouy Beckford tried a shot from twenty eight (28) yards but it went straight in the Garvey Maceo custodian hand.

Kiene Dyer played in Ryan Scott but his powerful shot went powerfully over the cross bar, midway the first half.

Garvey Maceo’s best scoring opportunity of the half came when Sharpe ran down the right hand side and got by his marker before delivering the perfect pass for Dyer who missed from five yards.

Holy trinity had a counter attack and came close to scoring , when Tevin Rochester’s shot just evaded the cross bar in the 26th minute. Eleven minutes later Rochester was brought down in the box and the referee rightfully awarded Holy Trinity a penalty, Rochester stepped up and sent the goal keeper Steva Wallace the wrong way to give his team the lead in the 37th minute.

Garvey Maceo players were really hurt by the goal and they got really physical. With one minute before the half time interval Marvin Smith was sent off for punching Chevon Bryan.

On the resumption, the Clarendon based school picked up where they left off in the first half. They were never easing up out of tackles and several times the referee had to warn the players of the tackles they were making.

Holy Trinity held their composer and used the one man advantage well, Jordan Foote played in Joel Sterling on goal but the goal keeper did well to race off his line to deny Sterling space and made a good save.

Andre Leslie got his first and Trinity’s second when he buried a free kick from 24 yards in the 71st minute. Holy Trinity was dominating possession and Garvey Maceo had no answer.

In the 79th minute Holy Trinity got their third when Sterling volleyed from just outside the 18 yard box. Holy Trinity was creating chances and should have got their fourth but Chevon Bryan failed to beat Wallace in the Garvey Maceo goal.

The tempo of the game was so aggressive from Garvey Maceo, that they were reduced to nine players in the 83rd Minute, when Denton Watson received a straight red card of the game for kicking Brandon Brown just over his eye.

Holy Trinity put the game beyond doubt when they got their fourth goal in the 85th minute, though some skillfully work done by Andre Leslie. The player dismissed his marker an ran in the box before firing past Wallace in goal.

Garvey Maceo did not ease up from their aggressive style of play and they saw a third red card on the day, Roshane Sharp receiving it this time for running in the back of Tevin Rochester.

Holy Trinity has knocked out two rural schools, Clarendon College and Garvey Maceo in this inaugural staging of the Super Cup.

Holy Trinity well face Wolmer’s in the semi-finals after the Heroe’s Circle based boys defeated St. Georges College in the second match of the day.
