Spurred on by Girvon Brown brace in the top of the table clash in the Red Stripe Premier League, Cavaliers SC defeated Arnett Gardens FC on Monday night, to show why they are leading the league, in the first game of a Heroes Day double header.

Cavalier entered the game in first place on 14 points while their opponent Arnett was on 11 points in second place.

Arnett started the game looking good on the ball with Alanzo Adlam looking particularly good for Arnett. He got a shot off early but it went well wide of the target.

Cavalier did look good going forward and won the first corner of the game in the 8th minute but Arnett was compose at the back and cleared the corner safely.

Cavaliers was sitting deep and waiting on the counter attack and they came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute, a Chevone Marsh cross was headed just wide by captain Jeffery Grant.

Arnett supporters were up out of their seats when a Jaron Richards cross went across the face of goal but none of his teammates was close to the ball to make contact.

However, Vishinil Harris got the best scoring opportunity of the half in the 25th minute with only Kadeem Davis in goal to beat but kicked straight at the custodian who made an easy save. Adlam caused trouble for Davis when he rifled a shot from 23 yards but Davis manage to turn it away for safety.

Arnett’s best player of the first half, Adlam, had another shot just inside the 18 yard box but with no power on the effort, Davis again had no trouble making the save.

The Lamar Morgan coached Cavalier did get their first goal gifted by errors from goal keeper Hyatt. A ball was played back to Hyatt who failed to make proper contact and Girvon Brown stole the ball before Hyatt made a tackle to concede a corner. Arnett failed to clear the ball to safety and Brown’s powerful shot went in the net just before the 4th official signaled one minute of stoppage time.

Brown doubled his tally and the score for Cavalier in last seconds of stoppage time, when a cross came from the left hand side and goal keeper Hyatt fumbled to give Brown an easy top. The half ended with Cavalier leading 2-0.

After the interval, both teams looked a bit more settled and seemed to have more patience going forward. With Cavaliers leading by 2 goals it meant that Arnett had a lot of work to do for the half. Marvin Morgan who had just came from a 1 match ban for a red card he received against his former club Waterhouse, was silent for most of the night. Morgan did try a long range effort but Davis easily plucked it out the air.

Desperate for goals, Jerome Waite turned to veterans Kevin “Pele” Wilson and Kirk Ramsay with the two combining well, soon after their introduction. Wilson laid a ball off for Ramsay at the top of the 18 yard box and the shot went narrowly wide of goal from Ramsay.

The game became physical and it resulted in two red cards for both teams. First Jabuer Johnson was sent off after picking up a second yellow card in the 68th minute for a crunching tackle on Chevone Marsh to leave the Arnett team with more pressure on their shoulders. Both teams had ten players each in the 85th minute, after Dwayne Holmes made a harsh tackle on Marvin Morgan. Oniel “Bigga” Thompson did get a scoring opportunity in the last minute of the game but could not keep down his header that went high over the cross bar.

Cavaliers ran out 2-0 winners on the night in a game that was not exciting but had its moments.
