Tivoli Gardens eased clear of the relegation zone in the Red Stripe Premier League when they edged fierce rivals Boys Town 2-1 in the latest edition of Monday Football on Heroes Day. Boys Town coach Andrew Price was honoured by the government when he was bestowed with the Order of Distinction for his contribution to football earlier in the day, but was let down by his players, particularly Daemion Benjamin, as his team failed to pick up a point in a feisty encounter.

At the sound of the referee’s whistle Boys Town went on the attack. Xavian Virgo used his pace to get by his marker and crossed a ball that found the head of Peter Keys but the striker failed to trouble goal keeper Edsel Scott who made a routine save.

Peter keys did some good work on the right side and his cross was met by Shamar Nicholson who controlled well but failed to test Scott in goal. Nicholson should have scored, but could not hold his composure to put Boys Town in the lead.

Tivoli broke in the 18th minute and Ranieke Anderson scored a screamer from the top of the 18 yard box beating Kirk Porter in the Boys Town goal. It was a good goal from the defender.

Tivoli went to the half time interval with the 1-0 lead.

At the resumption, Tivoli started like they wanted to put the game to bed early in the second half. Rohan Reid had two quick attempts. First it was a long range effort that Kirk Porter dealt with easily and then a Kemar Flemming cross was met by Reid’s head, but he could not direct his header on target..

Youngster Shamar Nicholson brought Boys Town level in the 65th minute. The 17 year old received a ball from the left hand side from Hugh Evans and placed his header out of the reach of Scott.

Kemar Flemming restored his team’s lead in the 80th minute when he used his pace and skill to beat three defenders before firing past Porter in goal to give Tivoli the lead for the second time in the game.

Tivoli midfielder Andre Morgan, received his second yellow and was sent off in the 83rd minute. Benjamin who was on the field for just five minutes was also red carded for pushing a Tivoli player to the ground.

Tivoli managed to hang on for the win, improving their points tally to eight while Boys Town remained on four points.
