Former Champions Boys Town scored their first win of the 2014-2015 Red Stripe Premier League season when they blanked Humble Lion 2-0 in the latest edition of Monday Night Football at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex last night.

Both teams began the game propping up the table, having one point from three games played, but Humble Lion was above Boys Town on goal difference. Both teams were guilty of squandering numerous goal scoring opportunities during the first half.

The second half was almost a replica of the first and it was clear why both teams were languishing in the league. But Boys Town who play their night games at the neighbour’s home broke the deadlock in the 77th minute when Shamar Nicholson’s glancing header nestled in the back of the net from a corner kick.

Humble Lion threw everything they had at Boys Town but Raffiek Thomas popped up in stoppage time to ensure the three points went the way of the Red Brigade when he stormed across the box, controlled the ball on his chest before hooking his effort beyond a stranded goalkeeper.

The three points lifted the Andrew Price coached team to four points and seventh place in the table, one behind defending champions Montego Bay United who have a better goal difference.

Meanwhile, Cavalier stole a march on the rest of the league to jump to first place when they edged champions Montego Bay United 1-0 at the Stadium East field on Sunday. The game appeared to be heading for a stalemate before Girvon Brown popped up to grab the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute and help his team secure three crucial points.

In the only other game played at the weekend, Rivoli United went to Tivoli Gardens to claim a famous come-from-behind 3-1 win.

The home team went ahead in the 25th minute when talisman Kaemmar Daley scored a trademark freekick. The home team held the lead at the break but were shell shocked by a Rivoli blitz midway the second half. Daniel Roberts levelled the scores in the 66th minute before Rivoli went ahead in the 68th minute through Kemar Beckford.

A 72nd minute strike from Ross Burton gave Rivoli a 3-1 cushion, but Navion Boyd reduced the deficit to 3-2 from the spot just two minutes later.

The St. Catherine based team managed to hold on for a nerve racking fourteen minutes to grab three points and prove that there is life at the club after Devon Hodges.
