Defending champions Barbican FC and Waterhouse FC put some daylight between themselves and Arnett Gardens in Zone A of the Sherwin Williams Women’s Football league after match day four on Wednesday.

Both teams are locked on 9 points after three wins following away victories in midweek. Barbican were given a scare at the Racing Oval when former champions Portmore Strikers took the lead four minutes before half time through Kay Ann West to go in 1-0 at the break.

Barbican’s response was swift. A minute after the resumption they were level when Shanique Smith got the equalizer. With just over ten minutes left to play former Strikers player Tashana Vincent put Barbican ahead before Smith got her second of the game to make it 3-1 seven minutes from time.

While Barbican was struggling to get past Portmore, Waterhouse had very little trouble against Arnett Gardens who was suffering their second straight defeat.

After a scoreless first half, Shanell Spence gave the visitors the lead in the 64th minute, before a three minute brace from Juneille Watkins in the 76TH and 79TH minutes rounded out the scoring in the game.

With only goal difference separating leaders Barbican from second place Waterhouse, it makes the game between both teams on the next match day of even greater significance.

The other game in the zone saw newcomers Rangers FC claim their first point of the season following and exciting 2-2 home draw with Olympic Gardens.

The St. Mary based outfit took a surprise lead after only 9 minutes when Afiya Edwards netted. Sabrina Berry hit back for Olympic Gardens in the18th minute as the half ended 1-1.

The visitors took the lead six minutes after the break but the home team rallied to claim a famous point when Konya Plummer grabbed the equalizer in the 69th minute. With the one point gained Olympic Gardens now move to four points and sit in fourth place in the zone.
