GC Foster College edged the University of the West Indies (UWI) 1-0 on Saturday as action continued in the Sherwin Williams Women’s Football league. It was the third straight win for GC Foster who continues to lead Group B, as they inflicted the second defeat in three games on the UWI.

The contest was settled by an Amanda Maxwell 15th minute strike, a second straight, one goal game, in which the UWI has played in as many matches.

While it is still early days in the season, GC Foster has already positioned themselves nicely to be a main contender for the mid-season finals.

Los Perfectos however, will likely have something to say about that as they hammered newcomers Boys Town Wildcats 7-0 at Brooks Park for their second win in as many games. Riding high from the 6-1 demolition of UWI on match-day one, the Mandeville based team got off to a quick start, going ahead with just four minutes on the clock, through Rohena Bennett who bagged four goals in the game.

Los Perfectos had to wait until the 22nd minute to get their second through Chevelle Lopez as the Wildcats put up a brave resistance, playing the offside trap to good effect to contain their opponents.

The third goal was an own goal and the visitors had the stuffing knocked out of them when Bennett got her second and the teams fourth on the stroke of half time.

The Wildcats came out a more organized group in the second half and held the home team scoreless for twenty two minutes before conceding a penalty which was tucked away neatly by Bennett for her hat-trick as she made the score 5-0. Shortly after Bennett made it 6-0 to the hosts as the flood gates opened up.

Megan Sanchez completed the scoring in the 87th minute to take her team’s goal tally to a healthy 13 in two games.

In the other game in the group, hosts Harbour View battled to a 2-2 draw with the other newcomers St. James Women’s Football Academy. The hosts went ahead after just two minutes when Petagaye Soman scored and would have thought they were in for an easy afternoon. However, the visitors hit back through Kadian Grant 20 minutes later.

St. James Academy was still celebrating when Shavell Martin put Harbour View ahead for the second time in the game, making in 2-1 in the 24th minute.

Grant got the second equalizer in the match three minutes before the half time break to complete the scoring in the game in a whirlwind first half.

The team from the West was securing their fourth point of the campaign after beating Port Morant Strikers on the opening day. They are showing that they will be a force to be reckoned with in this their debut season.

GC Foster leads the zone with 9 points from three games while Los Perfectos has 6 points from two games. Harbour View and St James Women’s Academy are tied on four points each but Harbour View has played a game less. The UWI are on three points from three games while Real Morant Strikers and Boys Town Wildcats are yet to register a point. Those two teams will face each other on Wednesday.
