Many football fans around the world would have waited for this day with baited breath as what many regard as the most exciting and best football league returned. The Barclay’s Premier League has never failed to provide football fans with major upsets andsheer joy. The early kick-off between Manchester United and Swansea City was yet another as Manchester United, now under new manager Louis van Gaal was expected to run over Swansea City especially playing at The Theater of Dream ( Old Trafford).

However it was the Swans who took the lead in the 28th minute when Ki Sung-yueng’s slotted home a Gylfi Sigurdsson cross. The Swans managed to hold on to the lead all the way to half time.

Tactical adjustments by Man United’s Dutch manager reaped almost immediate success after the break as it took the home team only eight minutes to equalize courtesy of an acrobatic effort from new captain Wayne Rooney.

However, the Swans played without fear and were very comfortable on the ball. Swansea got the winner with only 12 mins left on the clock when Sigurdsson bundled home. Memories of last season came rushing back. Another team who had not won at Old Trafford in decades had won as Manchester United lost their first game of the season since 1940’s.

In other games around the league new comers Lester City came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Everton and Hull City came away with a 1-0 over Queens Park Rangers. Ten man Tottenham Hotspurs narrowly escaped with a 1 nil win over the West Ham, while West Brom played to a thrilling 2-2 draw with Sunderland ,

Stoke City went down by one goal to Aston Villa and pre season favorites Arsenal left it late to earn a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace .

Tomorrow will feature last season’s champions and second place finishers Manchester city and Liverpool respectively, as Liverpool face Southampton and Man City play Newcastle.
