Another dominant display on both ends of the court by the Sunshine Girls, saw them chalk up their fourth straight victory in netball at the Commonwealth games yesterday. The Jamaicans are determined to get at least a podium finish at the games and their 81-50 destruction of fifth ranked Malawi proved just that.

Another front running performance saw the Girls take a first quarter lead of 25-10 before closing out the half at 48-25 for a 23 point lead at half time. Just like they did in their previous three games, the Jamaicans came out, all guns blazing, in the second half winning the third quarter by a 17-14 margin.

With the scores reading 65-39 at the end of three quarters and Malawi a clearly beaten team, the Sunshine Girls maintained their focus to finish the game strongly, outscoring their opponents 16-11 to close out the contest. With Malawi only one ranking point below Jamaica, it was expected to be a much keener contest, but the deadly accuracy of the Jamaicans in attack and the fantastic effort on defence proved too much for the Africans.

Jhaniele Fowler-Reid who had a shooting accuracy of 90% led the way for Jamaica with 55 of 59 ably assisted by Shanice Beckford with 24 of 27 while Thristina Harwood chipped in with 2 of 4.

Jamaica will next play the mighty New Zealand team for pool A honours on Wednesday.
