Carlos Tevez out of World Cup due to ‘group issue.’

Former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has left out of Argentina’s World Cup squad due to ‘group issue’ according to Argentina’s FA president Julio Grondona. The 30 year old striker scored 19 goals in Serie A this season for Juventus leading the Turin club to Scudetto glory. Tevez moved to the Old Lady last summer and was instrumental in their charge to the Serie A title.

Having suspected that he would be excluded from Argentina’s squad for the World Cup despite a stellar season, Tevez had stated that he won’t watch the World Cup. His suspicion was confirmed when he saw the likes of Werder Bremen striker Franco Di Santo named in the 30 man provisional squad ahead of him by manager Alejandro Sabella.

There has been many speculations of a rift between captain Lionel Messi and Tevez but the Juve striker had denied such an issue earlier this season. However the AFA president told Sky Italia that a ‘group issue’ ruled out the man known as ‘the player of the people’ in Argentina.

He said: ‘It’s a group issue, one to do with the players. There are many players battling for one position in the team. In these situations, it is not positive that they are all there, as at the end you don’t know who is going to play. That is when the problems start, as already happened on previous occasions.’

There was a clear indication that there was or there were ‘group issues’ in the past and his exclusion is aimed at eliminating such problems this time around. There are still many unanswered questions and there is much to ponder as to why Sabella would exclude one of the most prolific and hard-working striker in the world from his squad this summer.
