U16 netball team heads to Caribbean tournament

The twelve-member squad of the Under 16 team as well as the coaches and management team left the island this afternoon for Antigua to compete in the Jean Pierre Caribbean netball tournament. 

The twelve-member squad of the Under 16 team as well as the coaches and management team left the island this afternoon for Antigua to compete in the Jean Pierre Caribbean netball tournament. 

 

 

 

A confident head coach – Marvette Anderson said that she expected the team to do well in the tournament as they understand what is at hand and are ready to take on the task even though it’s the first time for all the players on the team.  She said that the strength of the team lies in the attacking department.

 

 

 

Co-captain Caralee Tinglin indicated that the team had worked hard and was expecting her team to do their best to make everyone proud of them. 

 

 

 

Jamaica’s first match will be against Dominica on Sunday April 6 at 8:00 pm. while the final match is scheduled for Saturday April 12 against St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

 

 

 

The U16 team won the tournament nine out of the ten times that it entered.  The only loss was against St. Kitts in 2005.

 

 

 

The local team members are co-captions Carlalee Tingling and Simone Gordon, and Tracy Ann Francis, Nicole Lewis, Idara McCarty, Shanique Francis, Hasana Williams, Bless-Sade Lindo, Susan Douglas, Shauna Kay Shand, Christina Miller, Sashoye Britton.

 

 

 

The head coach is Marvette Anderson who will be assisted by Yvonne Dixon-Price.  The manager is Lydia Wilks while the physiotherapist is Joan Rattray.

 

 

 

The team sponsors are Scotiabank and Gilbert.

 

 

 

Two Jamaican umpires will officiate in the tournament.  They are Jennifer McKenzie and Rasheed Johsephs.
