McIntosh to take Sunshine Girls to Commonwealth Games

Netball Jamaica (NJ) indicated that Gill McIntosh who is back in Jamaica for a second stint as Technical Director will take the Sunshine Girls to the Commonwealth Games and sit on the bench for the duration of the tournament.  She will serve as technical director for five months where she will work directly with the coaches in the Berger Elite League, the various team coaches (U14, U16 and U21) as well as the other coaches in the island.

Netball Jamaica (NJ) indicated that Gill McIntosh who is back in Jamaica for a second stint as Technical Director will take the Sunshine Girls to the Commonwealth Games and sit on the bench for the duration of the tournament.  She will serve as technical director for five months where she will work directly with the coaches in the Berger Elite League, the various team coaches (U14, U16 and U21) as well as the other coaches in the island.

 

 

 

McIntosh expects to be able to take to Sunshine Girls to a podium position in the Commonwealth Games and to leave a structure in place that will ensure proper preparation for the World Championship in 2015.  She thinks that the psychological side to Jamaica’s game needs to improve and that with the help of sports psychologist Khadijah Richards Jamaica will improve.

 

 

 

Marva Bernard, president of Netball Jamaica spoke about the changes that had been made to improve netball in Jamaica.  These include the announcement and introduction of Minneth Reynolds as head coach of the senior team, fitness trainer Roy Thomas, performance analyst Xavier Thompson and personal development coach Carmen Clarke.  She also indicated that they are working on having their own indoor facility with a sprung wooden floor to prepare the team continuously prior to the Common Wealth Games as well as sourcing and providing the proper footwear that will withstand the rigorous training and competition.

 

 

 

Bernard also announced the sponsors who signed on to ensure that Netball Jamaica was able to contract McIntosh for the period.  They are Best Dressed Chicken, NCB, Caribbean Cement Company, Courts, PetCom and ATL Automotive.  ATL provided a 2014 Volkeswagon Polo car while PetCom will gas it until August when the contract expires.

 

 

 

According to Karen Anderson who has been the general manager for a year was on hand to complete the process of transforming the association to a limited liability company, NJ still has a lot of work to do such as having a development squad in training and preparation continuously.  She said that the challenge was to attract the required funding through sponsorship and otherwise to achieve their objectives.
