FIFA Referee Cardella Samuels, FIFA Assistant Referee Stacy-Ann Greyson and 2013 appointed FIFA  Assistant Referee Princess Brown have created history.

This is the first time that three FIFA officials from Jamaica (male or female) have been appointed to officiate at a FIFA World Cup tournament at the same time.

The three officials have been appointed by the FIFA Referees Committee to officiate at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica to be held March 15 to April 4, 2014.

They leave the island on Saturday, March 8 , International Women’s Day for Costa Rica.

The 31 year old Samuels is excited about working with an all-Jamaican crew and is anxious to get going.

“This is my second major FIFA tournament in the middle and I am excited and confident about what we can achieve in Costa Rica. Working with an all Jamaican crew will make it easier and more comfortable for all of us.”

Greyson who has returned to the game after eight months out following the birth of her son is “happy to know that I will have my colleagues beside me. It is comforting to know that I am not in this alone.

Greyson who is 27 years old, is excited to be going to her ‘biggest’ tournament to date and appreciates the fact that she will be there with friends.

“We have worked together for a long time, so we know each other well. If you are working with someone you don’t know you worry about making mistakes, but when you are working with people you know it becomes so much easier because of the understanding that you have of each other.”

“I am excited about being back on the sidelines and my heart is filled with joy to be going to another FIFA tournament so soon after returning to the game,” she concluded.

Brown who is also 27 years old will be making her FIFA debut. “I am feeling very good right now. It is truly a dream come true. I always wanted to be at the top and now that I am here I am going to Costa Rica to do what is required of me and have an incident free tournament.

“I really feel comfortable working with Cardella and Stay-Ann. We know each other’s routine and how everybody operates. We know each other’s background and way of  thinking throughout the game. I am very excited and can’t wait to get going,” she said.

Jamaica just missed out on qualification for the tournament when they lost  to Canada in the semifinals of the final phase of qualification in Montego Bay, Jamaica, late last year.

Former, Jamaican referee and now FIFA Referee instructor, Peter Prendergast will also be in Costa Rica as a technical instructor for the referees in the tournament.
