A thankful Kemar Lawrence was recently chosen to be the Jamaican ambassador for global brand Pepsi Cola and has been featured in a series of ads that has been shown on local television. The 21 year old who plays in defence for Harbour View in the Red Stripe Premier League acknowledges that the work has only just begun and is prepared to do whatever it takes to get to the next level.

Speaking at a press conference where he was unveiled as the ambassador Lawrence said, “I want to say thanks to Pepsi, for choosing me. It’s been really hard work. I have to say thanks to my teammates, my coaches,  my friends, grandma, mommy , even some people on the road side, just have to say thanks to them . Someone came in a meeting and told me the other day that the harder you work the luckier you get and I just started to believe in that the other day because I have been putting in the work.”

The humble but jovial young man credited his rise in football, to the fundamentals he received in his formative years, “It all started from Holy Family, a coach that most people might know, Mr Itesmans, unfortunately he passed away, a really great person, it all started from him.”

“(Then I) went to Harbour View at age thirteen, the boss (Carvel Stewart) saw me, asked who is that left foot player, looks like Bibi (Ricardo Gardner).  So everyone started calling me ‘Little Bibi’, I appreciate what Bibi Gardner did for the club, I had someone to look up to, someone to imitate so I just took that, grasp it, did what I had to do and still doing what I have to do because this is the hardest part right now I guess.

“When you reach at the top it’s the hardest part to stay at the top so I guess this is the hard part now, hopefully I can stay positive, be a good role model, represent Pepsi to the best of my ability, and I just want to say thanks to Pepsi for choosing me as their ambassador I am really, really grateful.”

Speaking with Yardie Sports after the press conference, Lawrence revealed that he was surprised to be chosen, “It felt really good to sign, at first I didn’t really know because they told me they were going to call in about three days and it took a week so when I got the call I was really surprised and right now I am just appreciating everything and I am just happy that they chose me and I am looking forward to big things with Pepsi.”

The Pepsi ad also features one of the biggest stars in world football, the Argentine, Lionel Messi and has been running on local television stations since its first airing at the press conference.
