The Haitian pair of Ronald Joseph and Chedlin Francoeur are not here to make up numbers but intend to make an immediate impact at their new club Waterhouse FC. Both players, who were plying their trade at Cheshire FC in the Turks and Cacaos Islands moved to the Drewsland based club during the transfer window and are excited about playing in the local league.

They have trained well and have adapted quickly to their surroundings despite the fact that Francoeur does not speak English. This has left Joseph with the job of translator which he has no problem doing.

Their old club, Cheshire FC are currently top of the table after winning the league last season but Joseph says he is happy to have made the switch to play in Jamaica.

“I see this as a stepping stone, to be able to play in Jamaica will give me the chance to become an even better player. I want to win the CONCACAF Club Championships and the Red Stripe Premier League, anything is possible,” said the ambitious midfielder.

“The training is harder here than in the Turks so that will help to make me stronger. I am bringing steel and goals to the midfield. I play in the holding role but I also like to get forward and score some goals as well,” said Joseph.

The 27 year old is itching to get onto the field and said, “I am ready to play if the coach wants me to start. I feel like I am in good enough shape to go right now.”

Francouer who is also 27 years old is said to be a tricky forwards with a thunderous shot. When he transferred he had already scored 21 goals in 15 games for his club this season and should he be able to replicate that type of form for Waterhouse he will definitely make up for the loss of main striker Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson who now plays in El Salvador.

Francouer has represented Haiti at both the Under-20 and Senior levels and has proven pedigree. He says he is excited about playing in the league and like Joseph can’t wait to don the famous Blue and Yellow striped jersey of his new club.

Without being boastful, he has set his targets very high for the rest of the season.

“I want to score two goals per game for the rest of the season. I have learned quickly that the league is very physical here but it does not scare me. In the Turks it (the game) was not as rough but I am up for the challenge. I can cope with the physical nature of the game here and do myself justice. I can’t wait to go out there and entertain the fans,” he said.

Should Francouer be able to deliver on his promise, then Waterhouse fans will soon be asking, ‘Tuffy’ who?
