The Capital One Cup quarter final clash between Tottenham Hotspurs and West Ham United has taken on added significance since the sacking of club manager Andre Villas-Boas on Monday after the club were humiliated by Liverpool at home on Sunday.

The meek surrender to Liverpool in the league was more than owner Daniel Levy could bare and a swift and immediate response was forthcoming after the game. Interim team manager and Spurs legend Tim Sherwood, will be looking for a swift and immediate response from the players.

West Ham themselves, have been in poor form of late and will be hoping that a successful Cup run will lift spirits around the club. Sam Allerdyce and his troops will be hoping for a repeat performance from the last time they visited the Lane in October when they ‘dropped the hammer’ on Spurs, coming away with a 3-0 win.

With one win in seven, in all competitions, the omen doesn’t look good for the Hammers but after being shell-shocked by Liverpool and currently being manager less, Allerdyce will feel this is as good a time as any to steal a march on Tottenham.
