Vaz finish third – ahead of Mona in Henriques Cup

Vaz Vaz Prep edged long time rivals Mona Prep 1-0 in the third place play-off of the JISA Prep School Henriques Cup on Friday November 29th at the UWI Bowl.

Vaz Vaz Prep edged long time rivals Mona Prep 1-0 in the third place play-off of the JISA Prep School Henriques Cup on Friday November 29th at the UWI Bowl.

The game which preceded the final, was a close and exciting one throughout as both teams played for more than just pride. The game was more than just a consolation for both teams who gave it their all from the first whistle to the last.

Vaz Prep leading striker Jhavier Lynch got the only goal of the game in the 19th minute in a very entertaining and absorbing contest.

The cheering parents from both sides, gave the kids full support throughout the 60 minutes as they too wanted a win for their respective schools. The screams at every half chance or tackle showed how much it meant to them as well.

While the main threats for Mona were the ever present Duncan McKenzie and the robust midfielder Matthew Bell, they were countered by Vaz Prep’s Zindane Barnes and Lynch.

The second half failed to produce any goals but provided lots of excitement for the excited parents, some of whom went home with sore throats from excessive screaming.
