JISA Prep School Alberga Cup quarter finals continues today

The second round of the 2013 JISA Prep School Alberga Cup quarter finals will be played today, after the competition took a small break to facilitate the playing of the first two rounds of the Henriques (Knock Out) Cup.

Six games from across the three groups will be played at three different venues.

At the UWI Bowl, Hydel Prep who were stunned 1-0 by Mona Prep in the Henriques Cup, will go up against Stella Maris seeking a win to get their season back on track. Hydel were the defending champions in the Henriques Cup and had looked like sure picks to at least return to the final this year.

Hydel will now have to be wary of a Stella Maris team that will be looking to take advantage of whatever vulnerabilities that may exist after their shock loss.

Defending Alberga Cup champions Quest Prep, will be hoping to avoid a ‘banana skin’ of their own when they take on the challenge of St. Peter & Paul in the feature game at the venue. Quest had to fight hard on the weekend to stave off the challenge of Emmanuel Christian Academy and can expect a similarly spirited effort from a team that has only the Alberga Cup left to focus on after already being eliminated from the knock out competition.

At St. Andrew Prep, Emmanuel Christian Academy will taking on a Mona Prep team that must now be brimming with confidence following their weekend exploits. While Mona are still challenging on two fronts, Emmanuel now has all their eggs in one basket and will no doubt come out with all guns blazing just as they did against Quest on Saturday.

The feature game will be between Hillel Prep and Portmore Missionary Prep both of whom will also be focusing solely on this competition.

At Liberty Prep, Lannaman’s and Wolmer’s will face each for the second time in three days after they clashed in the Henriques Cup on Saturday. Lannaman’s won that game 3-0 and will be looking for a repeat score line, while Wolmer’s will be looking for a reversal in fortunes as they look to stay relevant in the league.

Vaz Prep and Our Lady of the Angels Prep (OLA), rounds out the day’s fixture in the feature game at Liberty, and it’s another case of one team hunting glory on two fronts while the other focused on just the league. OLA did not make it to the quarter final round of the knock-out so will be rested and fresh to face a Vaz team that had to fight for their 2-0 win over Hillel in very hot conditions on Saturday.

More shocks could be on the cards as the underdogs look to spoil the party for some of the more fancied schools.

Kick-off in the first games, is as 2:00pm while the feature games are expected to get underway at 3:00pm.
