Grassroots football reaches Hanover

The focus on the development of football at the grassroots level will continue on Saturday, November 23 when the Digicel/Jamaica Football Federation grassroots programme moves to the Watson Taylor Park in Hanover.

The focus on the development of football at the grassroots level will continue on Saturday, November 23 when the Digicel/Jamaica Football Federation grassroots programme moves to the Watson Taylor Park in Hanover.

 

 Children, ages 6-12 from primary schools in the parish of Hanover will participate in the programme beginning at 1:30pm.

 

Prior to that Programme Director, Andre Virtue along with past national players will conduct a Grassroots Coaching Clinic for coach educators, beginning at 10am at the same venue.

 

The Grassroots programme initiated by the JFF and sponsored  by telecommunications company Digicel is now half way through its second year.

 

The programme aims to not only build the popularity of the sport but through festivals structured in small sided games introduces the fundamentals of the sport to girls and boys, age 6-12. The small sided games include a focus on goalkeeping; scoring goals; ball control and dribbling and passing.

 

For the second year to date festivals have been held in St Mary, Portlnd, St Thomas, St Ann and Trelawny.
