Attica completed a routine win over Block Aye in the quarter finals of the Sagicor UWI Guild Champions League on Sunday without getting out of second gear, as they  continued their march towards a third straight title.

There was great expectations ahead of the game that it would be a classic encounter, but it failed to live up to expectations in terms of excitement as Aye just never really showed up.

Attica’s Oral Johnson showed his intentions as early as the fourth minute when he led an Attican counter-attack, but his final effort was off the mark.

Ten minutes later Johnson  would hit the target with a scuffed effort, that the Aye keeper somehow managed to dive over, gifting the defending champions the lead.

The crowd tried their best to get into the dour affair and were finally given a reason to cheer when Aye grabbed an equalizer through a strike from O’connor in the 29th minute. The ball fell kindly to the player inside the 6 yard box when Attica failed to mark properly at a corner kick and he lashed home to make it 1-1.

The half ended 1-1 and the fans were expecting the game to burst into life in the second period.

Less than five minutes into the second half Ramoun Reid restored Attica’s lead, prodding home from a corner kick.

Midway the half it was 3-1, following yet another corner kick as set plays haunted the men from Chancellor Hall. The game was turning out to be an unexpected stroll for the team from Taylor Hall.

Johnson completed the scoring, grabbing a brace late in the half as the crowd were left wondering where the real Block Aye team was. After all, they had promised so much in their previous match.

Attica will know their semifinal opponents following the completion of the quarter final round tonight.

In the first game of the double header, Block Che of Chancellor Hall will go up against the Veterans of Irvine, the winner of which will face Attica in one semi-final and the feature game pits Preston Titans against Rex Warriors and the winner of that game will face the Roosters in the other semi-final.

Both semi-finals will be played on Sunday.
