Five time defending champions Barbican remained unbeaten this season when they shrugged off the challenge of St. Thomas strikers by beating them 4-0 at the Barbican field on Saturday. Having already qualified for the semifinals, the champions took care of the business in the first half scoring all their goals to seal yet another win for coach Charles Edwards.

Tashana Vincent opened the scoring in the 17th minute and fellow striker Nickhimia James made it 2-0 in the 28th. Interim captain Philisha Lewis made it 3-0 in the 35th minute before an owl goal completed the scoring in the match. Barbican are way out front in Zone A with 19 points.

The race for second spot in the zone was always going to be between UWI WFC and Harbour View and the ‘Stars of the East’ took full advantage of UWI’s inactivity, due to their bye week, to thrash Olympic Gardens 6-0 and leapfrog the college team into second place.

Olympic who are second from bottom in the zone with only three points were no match for their opponents who have already qualified for the knock out final.

Tanesia Vassell who opened the scoring in the 10th minute and Khadija Shaw both helped themselves to a brace apiece. They both scored in either half of the game. Lydia Hall also got on the score sheet in the first half when she made it 3-0 in the 26th minute. The game’s other scorer was Shavell Martin in the 54th minute.

The runners-up for Zone A will almost certainly be decided this weekend when UWI who are on 10 points  host Harbour View who have 12 at the Mona Bowl starting at 3:30pm. Both teams will have cellar dwellers  St. Thomas who are yet to gain a point and whose coach passed away recently, to play to complete their fixtures after they face each other.
