Early test for Moyes as United manager

must prove that he is worthy of being the next Manchester United manager and will go up against one of the best in the game in Jose Mourinho when he welcomes Chelsea to the Theatre of Dreams today.

It is a tough test to face in only your second game as manager in the league, but the Scotsman will no doubt be up for the challenge. The sideshow that is the attempt by Chelsea to sign United forward Wayne Rooney will not prove to be a distraction and Moyes has said that he may even start the want-away striker. Rooney came off the bench to provide two assists in the champion’s comfortable 4-1 win over Swansea in Wales last weekend.

But the mind games have already started. Mourinho has blamed Moyes for the situation with Wayne Rooney and says that United should expect another bid for the former Everton man after the game. The new bid is expected to be over £30m and it will be interesting to see the reaction of premier league champions regardless of the outcome of the game.

Chelsea have played two and won both of their league encounters so far and will be looking to make a major statement tonight by going three from three at the expense of the defending champions in the first Monday Night football blockbuster.

Both teams saw bookies favourite Manchester City, fall prey to Cardiff City in Wales and will look to take advantage of that slip up and open a gap in the early weeks of the season.

Robin Van Persie has started where he left off last season scoring a brace last weekend and Danny Welbeck also grabbed two goals. Chelsea has scored the same number of goals in two games and the matchup between these two giants of English football should be quite a treat today.

Game time is 2pm local time.
