Tottenhan step-up chase for Roma forward

Tottenham Hotspur are currently hunting highly rated Argentinian forward Erik Lamela of AS Roma, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 21-year-old attacker has been in great form for the Serie ‘A’ side since he transferred from River Plate to Rome in 2011.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is said to be in the market for a playmaker as he looks to replace Gareth Bale, who seems set on a move to Real Madrid.

Tottenham are understood to be in talks with Roma over a fee for Lamela.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £30million which would be a club record should Tottenham get a deal done.

Lamela is a very gifted player technically. He is very good on the ball, very composed, very skilful and has the flair to get past his opponents. He is very good in tight situations and is very versatile as he can play in any position in the attack. He can play on both wings, behind the main striker and he can also play as the main striker.

Villas-Boas is said to favour a 4-3-3 formation and Lamela is able to play in that system due to his versatility. The Portuguese tactician likes to play a fluid style of football and Lamela would be well suited to this style and would also give Spurs many options.

Tottenham have so far captured Nacer Chadli, Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue this summer, and are still looking to add to their squad ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

They want to challenge for the Premier League title or finish in the top four so they can qualify for the Champions League.
