Rodave Murray scored an injury-time equaliser for Waterhouse FC on Sunday, to earn his team a valuable point as they fight to avoid relegation in the Red Stripe Premier League.

Kenroy Howell fired Waterhouse ahead in the 23rd minute after collecting a sublime pass from Andre Leslie, then cutting in from the left flank. Chevone Marsh levelled up things moments after coming on as a second half substitute, tapping home an Oshane Jenkins cross after the Waterhouse defence was caught flat footed. Dwayne Smith smashed home a neat pass from ace midfielder Jeffery Henry to put Caviler SC ahead but Murray’s thunderbolt from ten yards made it 2-2 to break Cavalier hearts at the death.

Waterhouse were on top for the opening half-hour but were let down by that lack of cutting edge in front of goal, until Howell , who scored a hattrick the last time the teams met at this venue, broke the deadlock in style for his first goal of the new year.

A Cavilier counter-attack broke down and, after the ball was fed out to Leslie out on the left flank, he cut inside before picking out Howell with a superb pass which he controlled expertly and drove a low shot beyond Carlloyd Walters.

Suela McCalla could have made it 1-1 immediately after the restart but he mis-cued a Jason Watson’s cross with a gaping goal to shoot at.

The Firehouse defence played to the linesman’s flag, not referee Karl Tyrel’s whistle, when Akeem Chambers failed to deal with a hopeful ball into the area and Mash, who had spent most of the early part of this year on a USA trial stint, ran from an onside position to tap home Jenkens’s cross.

Waterhouse FC players were clearly frustrated by the decision to let the goal stand but responded well and peppered Walters goal with shots at the restart of the game. Waterhouse continued to press forward but their search for the go ahead goal became more and more desperate.

Cavalier looked capable of soaking up everything the visiting side could throw at them until Smith took a delightful pass in his strides from Henry and smashed it pass the advancing custodian. The last encounter between these two teams ended in an eight goal thriller and the visitors were in no mood to give up the ghost.

Kemar Beckford who played his heart out brought out the best save of the afternoon from Walters, after cutting in from the left flank and unleashing a cracker that almost severed Walters’s hand as he turned the ball over the crossbar for a corner kick.

Two minutes later the same player produced the same result, another miraculous save from Beckford’s header from 6 yards. In the 85th minute Romario Campbell played Beckford through with a peach of a pass but Walters came out like a big black octopus to claw the ball away from Beckford’s twinkle toes.

Cavalier had very few opportunities and should have counted themselves lucky to still be ahead in the game at that stage. In time added on teenage sensation Murray ingeniously trapped a cut back from Campbell after a quick counter attack down the left flank and the Dinthill High schoolboy made no mistake by thumping it pass Walters for a share of the spoils.

The Waterhouse spectators were happy with a point while the Cavalier players and spectators were left fuming in disappointment. Waterhouse plays at home next week with Harbour View who were held 1-1 by Portmore United in a keen contest to secure fourth spot. The third manager for this season for Waterhouse, Anthony Patrick, was encouraged by the spirit his team showed, and is hoping they can go in a 7 game unbeaten run to avoid the drop to the second tier division.

Coach Rudolph Speid said, “his team should have done better. They played a very poor first half, however, in the second half they picked up the pace but lost concentration and allowed Waterhouse to score in the last kick of the game.”

Coach Anthony Patrick: said they created far more chances than his opponent and should have won the game comfortably but one point is better than none.

Cavalier takes on 3rd place Portmore United, while Waterhouse hosts Harbour View next Sunday.
