The fixtures for the significantly delayed, but highly anticipated, Jamaica Premier League season 2020-2021 have finally been released with details showing that the first set of games will be played at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the University of the West Indies, on Saturday June 26th.

The regular season games will be played as double headers on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays at UWI, the National Stadium and the Stadium East Field.

The government gave the go-ahead for the resumption of football at the premier league weeks ago, but even so, both players, club administrators and fans have had to wait to find out the finer details of the season.

New coach of Vere United, Donovan Duckie says that his team will be giving it their best effort when they take on Molynes United in their first game of the season despite the inadequate preparation time.

“It is not adequate preparation. We are nowhere near ready to play our first game but we still have to put our best foot forward.”

There will be only one round, instead of the usual three rounds this season, followed by the playoffs which include a top six and bottom six playoffs.

At the end of the ‘regular season’ the bottom six will have a playoff which will determine their final placings which will determine their final financial compensation at the end of the season.

The top two teams will advance straight to the semifinals, while the next four will participate in a quarterfinal round, with the best two advancing to the semifinals. The matches will be played

On Saturday June 26th, Arnett Gardens FC will tackle the UWI FC at 1:00pm while Cavalier FC will take on Humble Lion FC at 3:30pm. On Sunday June 27th Mount Pleasant FA will face Tivoli Gardens FC at 8:30am before defending champions Portmore United take on Dunbeholden FC in the Portmore derby at 11:00am.

The final games of match week one will see Vere United FC do battle with Molynes United FC on Monday June 28th at 1:00pm, while the team that was at the top of the pile when the 2019-2020 season was cancelled, Waterhouse FC will begin their season against perennial challengers Harbour View FC Nat 3:30pm.

All the games on the opening weekend will be played at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the University of the West Indies.
