Jamaican schoolboy football transfer window opens

Though unofficial, the Jamaican schoolboy football transfer window is now open. With exams results coming out on Friday, coaches can now go after their targets in earnest in the hopes of bolstering their respective squads ahead of the September start of the Inter- Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Schoolboy Football season.

The season will be launched this coming Thursday at the Terra Nova Hotel at which time the fixtures for both the DaCosta Cup and the Manning Cup will be revealed. The Dr. Dean Weatherly coached Cornwall College were imperious last season on their way to winning the DaCosta Cup while Jamaica College won their fourth straight title under head coach Miguel Coley.

Lennon High won their first ever senior schoolboy football trophy when they lifted the Ben Francis KO title under the guidance of Merron Gordon, whilst the experienced Ludlow Bernard brought back the winning feeling to Kingston College with victory in the Walker Cup. Vassell Reynolds was impressive in taking an underrated Wolmer’s team to glory in the coveted Super Cup competition as the urban area schools continue to dominate.

Jamaica College was the only school to win more than one title last season when they defeated Cornwall College in the Olivier Shield.

As usual there will be keen interest in seeing how the new look teams shape up in the early season as players move from school to school in a bid to lift trophies.
