Former champions Arnett Gardens FC finally got the better of defending Red Stripe Premier League champions Montego Bay United this season, when they carved out a hard fought 2-1 win at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay on Monday night. A brace from Fabian Reid helped guide helped guide Arnett to a 3-2 aggregate win which sees the West Kingston based team advance to the semi-finals of the competition, where they will face regular season winners Humble Lion FC.

Montego Bay United went into the game full of confidence have beaten the ‘Junglists’ three times and drawn the other in the four previous meetings this season. With the backing of a massive home crowd and a 1-1 draw from the first leg quarter-final, the champions were poised to get to the semi-finals ahead of the visitors.

However, the 2015 champions and especially Reid, had other ideas. Having scored the goal to rescue a point for Arnett last Monday, Reid got the opener this time around to give his team the lead after only 17 minutes, when a deflected shot took the ball beyond a stranded Jacomeno Barrett.

Arnett Gardens held the lead to the half time break before Dino Williams pulled his team back into the contest when he fired home from inside the box in the 63rd minute. But Reid would grab his second and the match winner in the 76th minute.

The two leg semifinals begin this weekend with former champions Portmore United hosting the first timers the UWI FC on Sunday while the second semifinals will be played on Monday when Arnett hosts Humble Lion at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
