Weather permitting, Pakistan will begin the hunt for the final West Indian first innings wicket a half hour early on the third day of the first Test in the Brighto Paints presents the Q Mobile Cup Series at Sabina Park, after rain allowed less than an hour’s play on day two. The West Indies resumed on their overnight total of 244/7 and stuttered to 278/9 before play was called off after less than an hour on day 2.
Overnight Rain had seeped through the covers and left wet spots on the pitch as well as leaving large wet spots on the outfield which caused a lengthy delay on day two. Play got underway at 2:10pm as the entire morning session was lost after rains returned and forced the covers back on the pitch.
Mohammad Amir snapped up the only two wickets to fall, moving his figures to 5 for 41 from 24.3 overs. Amir has bowled with pace and accuracy, hitting the wicket three times, including that of Alzarri Joseph who was last out for a duck. Before that he had Devendra Bishoo caught behind by Sarfraz Ahmed for 28. Captain Jason Holder remained not out on 55 and will face the music once more with Shannon Gabriel who is on four.
Pakistan will be anxious to wrap up the West Indies innings early on day three while Holder will be hoping to edge the West Indies beyond the psychological 300 runs mark. The weather may have the biggest say however as rain persisted overnight and remains in the forecast for Sunday.
The umpires have suggested a 9:30 start today but that is highly unlikely as rain battered the outfield yesterday, into last night.
