Despite recording a 1-1 draw with Harbour View FC and picking up seven points from their last three games played in the Red Stripe Premier League, Jamalco FC will return to parish football after making their debut in top flight football this season.
The fate of the Clarendon based outfit was sealed on Wednesday where only a win would have kept them in the running for premiership survival.
Jamalco took the lead in the 62nd minute through Laxston Reid but it lasted for a mere six minutes before Sean Fraser drew the visitors level. The loss of Matthew Davidson nine minutes before full time did nothing to help the chances of the home team. The final whistle sealed the fate of the team that led the league during the first round of the competition.
The other promoted team Marverley/Hughenden FC, who had been away from top flight football for more than two decades, had a stay of execution following a 0-0 draw with championship contenders Humble Lion at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. The stalemate means that Marveley will need to win on Sunday and hope that their main rivals Waterhouse FC lose, in order to remain in the league.
Boys Town FC late season rally continued unabated as they registered yet another win, hammering Reno FC 4-1 at the Barbican Field. The Red Brigade had four scorers in Michael Campbell (47th), Jamiel Hardware (52nd), Shamar Nicholson (57th) and Javon Howell (87th) who helped them overcome a 0-1 half time deficit after Craig Foster had scored for the visitors in first half stoppage time.
The win for the Andrew Price coached team means a single point on Sunday will be enough to guarantee top flight football next term, while the loss for Reno means the Arnett Gardens has sealed the last playoff spot, despite being blanked 3-0 in their West Kingston derby with rivals Tivoli Gardens.
Elton Thompson enjoyed a hattrick for the home team as he assumed the goal scoring mantle in the absence of team leading scorer Jermaine Johnson, who is out with a sore hamstring.
Thompson got the first goal in the 23rd minute before grabbing two second half goals two minutes apart. The diminutive strike scored in the 60th and 62nd minutes to help Tivoli register their first win in three games, after back to back losses had ended their chances of finishing top of the league.
Waterhouse FC made life extremely difficult for themselves after they were thrashed 4-1 at home by Portmore United. The Drewsland based team conceded in the first minute of play when Maalique Foster found the back of the net before Michael Binns made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
A Ewan Grandison second half brace made it comfortable for the visitors when he scored in the 66th and 74th minutes before the red hot Kemar Beckford pulled back one for the home team.
The UWI FC continues to struggle against the defending champions and were held 0-0 by Montego Bay United FC at the UWI Bowl.
The Marcel Gayle coached unit has failed to register a single win in six tries against the champions and will not be wanting to face them in the knock out phase of the competition.
The final set of matches in the regular season will be played on Sunday where the fate of the final team to be relegated will be known as well as the regular season champions for 2016/2017, will be crowned.
