A mix of youth and experience aptly describes the 41 member Jamaican contingent to the third IAAF World Relays set for Nassau, Bahamas, on April 22-23, 2017.
The women’s squad is led by reigning Olympic sprint-double champion, Elaine Thompson, whilst Asafa Powell is listed among the top male competitors.
Several of the stars from the recently held Jamaica Intercollegiate Championships have been named as part of the team. Chief amongst those are Olympian and double Intercol sprint champion Shasha Lee Forbes of GC Foster College/Sprint Tech camp.
Olympic sprint relay gold medallist, Yohan Blake, 2016 Olympic finalist Christania Williams and the 2016 World Indoor Tour 60-metre champion Gayon Evans will all suit up for the Jamaican team.
Despite the absennce of top names such as Usain Bolt, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell- Brown, The team still remains a formidable unit which should perform well, when the competition gets going.
Jamaica will have participation in the 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m for both men and women as well as a 4x400m mixed relay.
The female squad is rounded out by sprinter Jura Levy along with a strong mile relay quartet led by, Olympic 400m bronze medalist, Shericka Jackson, relay silver medalists Anneisha McLaughlin-Whilby, Stephenie Ann McPherson and recently crowned intercollegiate champion Verone Chambers.
Olympic mile-relay silver medallist, Christine Day who suffered an injury scare earlier in the season is also listed among the female athletes, along with 2016 World Junior 400m champion Tiffany James.
Olympic 400-metre hurdles finalists, Janieve Russell, Ristanana Tracey, 800m specialist, USA based Natoya Goule are the other female athletes listed.
Olympic relay gold medallist and Commonwealth Games 100m champion Kemar Bailey-Cole, intercollegiate champion Everton Clarke, and Julian Forte, Nickel Ashmeade, Oshane Bailey and Rasheed Dwyer and Olympian Jevaughn Minzie are the males expected to do battle for the black, green and gold.
A pretty strong quarter-mile squad will fly the flag for Jamaica in Bahmas. The lead man in that team is Olympian Javon Francis, where he is joined by Javere Bell, 2017 Intercollegiate champion Demish Gaye, Peter Matthews, Rusheen McDonald, Jaheel Hyde and Martin Manley.
The squad is headed by technical director Maurice Wilson, with supporting coaches being Paul Francis, Jerry Holness, Michael Clarke, Renardo Walcott and Patrick Dawson.
