Foster scored a minute before the half time break to seal a 2-0 win for his team.

First half strikes from Kavar Walker and Craig Foster were enough to take Reno a comfortable 2-0 win over a lackluster Waterhouse team at the Drewsland Stadium on Sunday, as action continued in the Red Stripe Premier League.

On a day when the bottom five clubs all lost, Reno secured three valuable points to move further away from the relegation zone and strengthen their chances of squeezing into the top six in the league.

Waterhouse began the game with a make shift defence as they missed the presence of a number of senior players through injuries or suspension. The experienced Reno team took full advantage of weakened back line and went ahead in the 17th minute when Walker side footed home from just inside the area after the Waterhouse defence had been pulled apart.

Foster should have made it 2-0 shortly after when he received a pass from the right side but placed the ball wide of the post with the goalkeeper badly out of position.

Reno continued their assault on the Waterhouse goal as Diego Haughton saw more of the action than his Reno counterpart Dennis Taylor who was a mere spectator for most of the first half.

But Taylor could only stand and stare as a snapshot from DeAndre Brown, from the edge of the area, cannoned off the crossbar and went behind for a goal kick, it was the home team’s first real sight at goal for the afternoon.

Jermaine Anderson was wasteful shortly after, missing an opportunity to draw his team level after a gaffe from Taylor. The Reno custodian made a poor clearance straight to the Waterhouse striker who went for a chip that went high over the bar, when a low drive into an empty goal was all that was needed.

Foster, who was playing in only his second game for Reno this season, made up for his earlier miss, showing his goal scorers instinct to prod home from inside the six yard box, after the Waterhouse defenders failed to clear their lines, a minute before the interval.

The Reno team defended solidly in the second half, keeping the Waterhouse strikers at arm’s-length despite the best efforts of captain Romario Campbell and midfielder Deandre Brown to try and find a way back into the game for their team.

The best chance of the second half for Waterhouse fell to the out of form Anderson almost on the stroke of full time, but the striker who dragged his effort which was then easily cleared by the Reno defence.

In a rematch of last season’s final, Portmore United and Montego Bay United played out a 1-1 draw at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. Javon East put the home team ahead in the 20th minute but Kashief Brown responded just six minutes later to ensure that the visitors left with a share of the spoils.

The point lifted Mobay to 39 points as they continue to lead the league, but only just. Portmore who now have 33 points, slipped a place to 5th following the draw, but still remain in contention for playoff football.

Tivoli Gardens too full advantage of the slip up by the leaders Mobay United, edging Jamalco FC 1-0 courtesy of a 4th minute strike from Marvin Stewart at the Wembley Center of Excellence. The win for the Omar Edwards coached team was the second for the calendar year and sees them move up to 38 points and to within a point of Mobay, with three games left in the second round.

Humble Lion shook off the shock defeat at Harbour View last weekend to blank Marverley/Hughenden 2-0 at the Effortville Community Center. Second half goals from Gary McIntosh in the 63rd minute and Jermaine Christian in the 86th minute not only helped to secure all three points, but also move the Clarendon based team up a place to fourth spot on 34 points.

The UWI FC recovered from being plundered last weekend by Arnett Gardens to carve out a narrow 1-0 win over Harbour View at the UWI Bowl. Davion Garrison who has been coming up with some big goals for the Mona based team this season, secure the points when he found the back of the net after only 11 minutes. It was an important three points for a team that just missed out on playoff football in their premier league debut season, last term.

It was a less than ideal result for Harbour View who remains on 20 points and a place above the relegation zone in 10th place.

The Collie Smith derby, as it always does, provided goals and as it has been so my times in recent fixtures, went the way of Arnett Gardens who edged the contest  2-1.

Played at the Barbican Field, which is the temporary home of Boys Town, the fans had to wait until the second half for goals.

Ranike Anderson broke the deadlock for Arnett Gardens from the penalty spot in the in the 57th minute, but Boys Town’s and the league’s leading scorer, Shamar Nicholson drew his team level with his tenth goal of the season  in the 75th minute.

Andrew Price would have hoped that his team could claim their first point for 2017 but was left to rue the all too familiar sight of watching them concede late in the game.  Fabian Reid struck three minutes from time to give national assistant coach Jerome Waite, his second win of the year as Arnett Gardens moved up to 28 points but still remain five behind fifth place Portmore.

Boys Town remains rooted to the foot of the table with a mere 12 points from 19 games and have managed just three wins all season.
