September 29, 2016 – A grand ‘Kick Off Weekend’, a ticketing system, a new Super Cup anthem, new sponsors and an award dedicated to late school boy captain of St.Georges College, Dominic James, are atop the list of new developments being introduced to the ISSA/FLOW Super Cup whose third renewal commences on October 21. Plans for the 2016 staging of the tournament were announced during a press conference hosted at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston on September 29.

According to FLOW’s Carlo Redwood, Vice President for Marketing & Television, the new developments move the competition closer in line with standards and practices observed in international tournaments. Describing the competition as setting a “benchmark” for the local execution of football of the highest standards, Redwood also re-pledged the company’s continued support for the growth and development of local school boy football and for governing body ISSA. He also encouraged greater support at the community/local business level for high schools sports programmes in schools.

For the third year, the organisers will be offering sixteen teams from the Manning and DaCosta Cup Competitions an opportunity to vie for a share of over 2 million dollars in cash along with the prestigious title of Super Cup Champion when the tournament begins on October 21. The winner of the ISSA/FLOW Super Cup will take home a grand sum of $1 million dollars, while all participating schools will have the opportunity to win cash for school development as each round progresses. Over $ 2 million in prize monies overall will be shared among the 16 schools. FLOW will also be providing the participants with full Nike kits including football boots along with offsetting the cost of participation.

“Corporate support is critical and for us Super Cup is a way to encourage increased investment by showcasing the best that school boy football has to offer.” Redwood said.  He further announced that the competition has welcomed two new major corporate sponsors – Wisynco and KFC. Nike, through Locker Room Sports Ltd. remains the sports apparel sponsor for the competition.

Another new element which has been introduced is the Super Cup MVP Award, which this year will be presented in memory of Dominic James, the only winner of the 2 Super Cup trophies playing for Jamaica College and St Georges College. Respect was paid to Dominic and the positive impact he had on the team and his school mates was acknowledged.  This new MVP award joins the ‘Golden Boot’ to make two individual awards for the competition and includes a scholarship grant component of $100,000. A new Super Cup trophy is also set to be unveiled this season.

All games in the 4 week long ‘Champions League of Schoolboy Football ’ will be played at the best football venues including the National Stadium, Sabina Park and the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay.

With regard to public access for the games, FLOW’s Sponsorship and Events Manager, Stephen Miller outlined a new ticketing procedure which removes the sale of tickets from game venues. Instead, FLOW will be creating hubs in highly trafficked areas and selling tickets in easy access retail locations in Kingston, St Catherine and Montego Bay. Flow also launchedwww.flowsupercup.com, a micro-site that will provide fans with a full roster of information related to the tournament including ticket locations.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on October 7, with the following prices being attached for entry: Sabina Park – $500 for entry to both the George Headley and North Stand, Catherine Hall – $500 for Bleachers and $800 for Grand Stand entry and the National Stadium – $500 for access to the Bleachers and $800 for Grand Stand access.

In true ‘Super Cup’ style, Miller also outlined that a “complete fan experience will be provided for patrons” on match days inclusive of popular sound systems, DJs, recording artistes, dancers along with tons of prizes and give-aways courtesy of the sponsors.

The ISSA/FLOW Super Cup final will take place on November 12 at the National Stadium in Kingston.
