It took the slick passing Kingston College only twelve minutes to carve open Norman Manley High school in the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup inside the National Stadium on Saturday, when they hammered a total of seven goals past Khari Campbell, as they marched to their 5th straight win of the season in yet another dominating performance.
A hat trick from Trayvone Reid and a brace from Rashawn Mackison along with one each from Dashawn Donaldson and substitute Shamar Bloomfield did the damage for the Ludlow Bernard coached team. They have now racked up a total of 30 goals while conceding only once so far.
Mackison started the rout for KC when he benefitted from a rebound, after Donaldson’s shot was saved by Campbell. He reacted quickest to the loose ball to slot home the first of his two for the afternoon.
Marlon Thomas broke free for Norman Manley down the left flank in the 18th minute but his cross was plucked out of the air by Jahvanni Grant. A quick release from Grant almost resulted in a goal for KC on a fast break, but Donaldson shot straight at Campbell with the whole goal to aim at.
Reid got on the scoresheet in the 22nd minute when Mackison found him near the edge of the box and he brought the ball under control before calmly slotting home to make it 2-0.
Trey Bennett then presented a gift for Raheim Irvin after he did some great work down the right flank before delivering a perfect cross to the back post, but Irvin headed wide of the target.
Mackison completed the first half scoring in the 28th minute when he cut the ball unto his left foot, sending a defender the wrong way before blasting home past a sprawling Campbell from just inside the area.
The second half was only six minutes old when KC increased their advantage. A quickly taken free kick by Antoneil Mullings found an unmarked Donaldson inside the box and headed home from close range.
The few Norman Manley fans inside the National Stadium thought they had pulled one back in the 63rd minute when captain Davion Fowler tried his luck from distance but the ball fell on the roof of the net.
Reid would get his second of the afternoon and KC’s fifth, four minutes later when he received a pass from second half substitute Bloomfield, before neatly getting it into his stride and stroking home to the far post for yet another composed finish.
The Mackison/Reid combination would account for goal number six as the latter completed his hat trick. A defense splitting pass from Mackison created the easiest of opportunities for Reid who side footed home for the third time in the game.
Bloomfield was determined to get his name on the scoresheet and did just that five minutes from time, lashing home into the roof of the net from 8 yards out to put the many KC fans inside the venue, in 7th heaven.
“We are still creating a lot of chances…any player on the team can get into the position to score and I think that is very vital going forward into the other games,” said a pleased Ludlow Bernard.
“We are not too dependent on any single player although young Trayvone Reid has now pushed himself into a prime position, whereby he can provide multiple goals to the team.”
“We are grateful for the win and we are grateful for scoring so many goals here today…we are well on track. This team is not under pressure to deliver,” he said.
Reid, who scored his second hat trick on the trot on Saturday, has promised that there will be more goals to come as Kingston College intensifies their trophy hunt.
“I am feeling very wonderful, getting two hat tricks in two games which has made me more confident going forward. I will continue to score goals for my team which could lead my team to the championship. I plan to score 15-16 goals this season,” he insisted, while suggesting that his team is aiming to sweep all trophies before them.
KC remains the only unbeaten team in Group C of the Manning Cup at the midway stage of the first round of the competition. They are now odds on favourites to qualify for the ISSA/FLOW Super Cup from this group.
