KINGSTON, Jamaica: UWI Football Club is the latest team to join the coveted fraternity of Lucozade-sponsored teams. On Wednesday, September 14, Lucozade Ribena Suntory announced that it will be sponsoring the Mona-based outfit in the 2016/17 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season.
The other Lucozade-sponsored team is Harbour View Football Club, a mainstay and top performer in the Premier League. Both teams were presented with sponsorship cheques and products during a function at the offices of Cari-Med Limited, local distributors of Lucozade.
The Lucozade Sport sponsorship deal valued at J$2M, will see UWI receiving a combination of cash, Lucozade beverages and other products under the brand in the upcoming RSPL season.
A similar deal has been inked with Harbour View Football Club, which has had an almost decade-old relationship with the Lucozade brand.
Harbour View, which has sat at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League standings on numerous occasions, first secured Lucozade sponsorship in 2007.
The decision to sponsor the teams was an easy one, according to Jodi-Ann Wright, junior brand manager, local sales for Lucozade Ribena Suntory, manufacturers of Lucozade Sport and Lucozade Energy drinks.
“Lucozade Sport and Lucozade Energy drinks are a great fit with these teams as both are synonymous with winning. These two teams have exemplified fine qualities in the way they have conducted themselves in getting to the top, and we want to be a part of that,” Wright said.
UWI FC made their debut in the RSPL in 2015 with a game against defending champions Arnett Gardens. They went on to have an impressive fifth place finish in the competition while Harbour View finished one place behind them.
Look out for the Lucozade Energy team at the upcoming Home games for the UWI and Harbour View Football clubs throughout the season. There will be sampling, giveaways and lots of Lucozade energy and excitement.
