The 2016-2017 ISSA/FLOW schoolboy football season was launched on Thursday at the Terra Nova Hotel with news that winners of the Manning Cup and the DaCosta Cup will receive $500,000 each. The prize money is sure to provide an added incentive to schools as they bid to claim the prestigious schoolboy football prizes.

In addition to the increase in prize money, there has been an increase in the number of substitutes that will be allowed to be used each game. The number has been increased from three to five which will give coaches the chance to use their squads a lot more. Each school potential chases four titles each season. The stronger schools now have a better chance of claiming more titles as their top players can get more rest at strategic points in the season.

Each school playing in the Manning Cup can potentially end up playing in the Walker Cup, FLOW Super Cup and the Olivier Shield, likewise the DaCosta Cup teams can end up contesting the Ben Francis Cup, FLOW Super Cup and the Olivier Shield.

The DaCosta Cup and Manning Cup both kick off on Saturday September 10th with the defending champions from both competitions playing at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay. Jamaica College will go up against St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) at 2:45pm and then the DaCosta Cup encounter between defending champions St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Black River High will follow right after. A host of other schools will be playing at various venues accros the island on the opening day.

In total 88 schools divided into 15 zones will contest the DaCosta Cup while 40 schools in seven zones will contest the Manning Cup during the three months long tournaments.
