TRACK ATHLETES PUT ON MODEST DISPLAY AT JC/PURE WATER MEET

The 23rd staging of the Pure Water/JC Track & Field Development Meet held on Saturday has been hailed a success by the chief organizers. Most of the athletes on show had something which was more of a concern to them however, and that was the condition of the running surface they had to participate on. While the records tumbled in the field it was far from the same in the track as not a single record was broken.

It was a similar sentiments echoed by a lot of supporters and coaches, watching some of athletes, taking some nasty tumbles, slips and disturbance in their race rhythms during almost all the track events.

Amongst the top athletes on display were Edwin Allen’s sprinters, led by defending class two champion Shellece Clark, who won the Class two 100m in 12.03 seconds. The runner up spots went to Holmwood Technical pair of Michae Harriot 12.06 seconds and Christine Irving 12.13 seconds.

They also secured the Class four title with victory for Britany Bridge in 11.99 seconds. St. Jago’s Chauntae Williams 12.39 and Krishauna Thomas 12.75 of Camperdown High finished second and third respectively.

The Class three event was won by Vere Technical’s Britany Anderson in a quick 11.88 seconds, finishing ahead of Covent of Mercy Alpha’s Kiara Grant 11.99 seconds and Edwin Allens’ Kevona Davis 12.17 seconds.

Holmwood Technical secured Class One through Shanta Deer 11.86 seconds, from Patrice Moody of Edwin Allen 11.88 seconds and finishing third, Camperdown’s Rushell Burton 11.99 seconds.

On the male side, the host school managed to secure two of the short sprints courtesy of Odario Phillips who cruised home 10.82 in the Class One 100m. Chisholm Gordon secured the Class Two boys event with a decent 10.92 seconds. Anthony Cox of St Jago won the Class 2 boys 100m.

In the Class One sprint hurdles Nicolee Foster of Holmwood won her heat in 14.46 to secure gold ahead of Andrenette Knight of St Jago in 14.50 and Rochelle Burton of Camperdown, who trailed Knight home in 14.65 seconds after winning their respective heats.

Manchester High’s Dazray Freeman 13.95 seconds, Shanette Alison of Holmwood 13.98 and Sidney Marshall of Manchester High14.95 secured top spots in the Girls Class two 100m hurdles.

Kimone McLeod of St Jago won the Class Three 80m hurdles in 11.94 from heat two, ahead of her teammate Rosalee Cooper who won heat three in 11.95 seconds.

St Jago’s Daayshanae Hall took the Class Four 70m hurdles time final in 11.54 seconds ahead of Chantel Williams of the Convent of Mercy, who won heat two in 11.74 seconds.

Phillips Lemonius came up big for Jamaica College took the Class One 110m hurdles in 15.10 seconds. Jahvel Granville of St. Jago wins the Class 4 boys 80m hurdles in 12.07.

Garfield Gordon of Mavis Bank won the 5000m Open 15:59.51 while Vere Technical Britnie Dixon won the 3000m open event in 10:48.62

Ceymore Donald of Edwin Allen capture the, Class 3 Girls 800m in 2:19.30 ahead of Brittany Brown of Manchester High in 2 :23.51 and Delverna Broomfield of Holmwood 2:25.08 seconds.

Kara Grant of Spalding won the Class 2 Girls 800m in 2:21.52, Monique Reid of Vere took second in 2:23.64 seconds and third went to Brittany Campbell of Holmwood 2:23.24.‪‬

Janiel Moore of Edwin Allen won the Class 1 Girls 800m in 2:23.24. Oshin Burger of Camperdown 2:24.32 and Shannon Kalawan of Edwin Allen 2:25.28 were the runners-up in that event.
