RECORDS TUMBLE IN THE FIELD AT 23RD STAGING OF THE JC/PURE WATER DEVELOPMENT MEET

Warren Barrett Jr. was in record breaking form at the 23rd staging of the JC/Pure Water Development Meet on Saturday as he set the tone for the season and the rest of the throwers seeking to win medals at Champs 2016.

Barrett threw 19.40 metres to surpass the of 18.98m mark set by former Calabar standout Ashina Miller en route to capturing the Class One Boys’ Shot Put. Vashon McCarthy of Jamaica College was second with distant 17.27m, while Calabar’s Kyle Mitchell (16.72m) placed third.

Barrett returned to capture the double by winning the Discuss event with a mark of 54. 78 metres, ahead of Kino Dunkley of Munro College with 52.49 metres and McCarthy who had to settle for third with 71.70 metres.

Excelsior High’s Latifah Smith threw 14.24m to capture the Girls’ Class One Shot Put ahead of Janell Fullerton of St Jago with 14.19m.

It was Gabrielle Bailey of St Andrew High who captured the Class Two Shot Put with 14.57m ahead of Buff Bay’s Fiona Richards with 14.20m.

Isheka Binns led a UWI clean sweep taking the the women’s shot put with 13.48m ahead of her teammate Dainelle Sutherland with 12.95m and Venique Harris in 12. 84 meters.

The 2015 World Championship finalist Fedrick Dacres competing for the University of the West Indies (UWI) won the men’s shot put with a throw of 17.35m.

Shauntae Foreman of Excelsior High also sored to new heights as she won the Class Four High Jump with a mark of 1.62m to erase the 2015 meet record of 1.60m set by Abigail Wilks. She finished ahead of Shante McFarlin of Immaculate High 1.45 and Chris Ann Cameron of Edwin Allen 1.40 metres settled for second and third respectively.

Janiel Burgher 1.65 metres and Anya Ashley of Edwin Allen 1.70metres won the Class 3 and 2 girls high jump finals.
