Kingston College added to an already woeful two weeks of football that their near neighours St. Georges College has had, when they dumped them out of both the ISSA/WATA Under-14 and Under-16 competitions on Thursday, at Jamaica College.

The schools faced off in the semi-finals of both competitions with KC scoring contrasting wins to advance to the finals in each category.

In the under-14 game, KC got off to a bright start when Dwayne Atkinson, who hit a brace, found the back of the net in the 7th minute. Captain, Michael Allen made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when he stroked home from inside the box, in a fairly one sided first half.

The second half was more of the same as KC continued to dominate proceedings. Shanthamoi Brown who was in goal when KC won this competition last year, has been an effective outfield player this season and got his team’s third goal in the 57th minute, with a delicate finish beyond the advancing STGC goalkeeper.

Seven minutes from time, Atkinson got his second and his team’s fourth goal to wrap up a straight forward win and put his team into the final where they will be seeking their third straight hold on the cup.

KC was forced to dig deep in the U-16 game, showing true Fortis spirit, to turn back the challenge of the Light Blues.

Neither team created any goal scoring chances in the first half as both teams failed to get into a rhythm. St. Georges had the better of possession but they failed to make use of it, with only one shot on target, while KC failed to get a single shot on target in the first stanza.

The second period started differently, with both teams looking more organized and composed on the ball. It was a midfield battle between the two young North Street teams in a game sparse of goal scoring opportunities.

The Marcel Gayle coached team went ahead in minute 48th, when Javaune Martin made a decent finish from a right sided cross.

Kingston College finally settled after conceding the goal and started looking dangerous. They were brought back on level terms in the 57th minute, when Horace Ramsay converted from the penalty spot after a St. George’s College defender handled the ball in the box.

KC was denied by the post after a Ramsay corner kick found the head of substitute Michael McDonald whose effort went straight onto the left upright in the 63rd minute.

Kingston College then took control of the game and camped out in their opponents half as they hunted the winner. KC had a couple half chances but they failed to capitalize before McDonald was played in behind the defence by the influential Ramsay and he finished well before goalkeeper Orville Smikle could claim the ball in the 77th minute.

Three minutes of stoppage time failed to produce any more goals as KC advanced to the final and it rounded out a good day for KC’s coach Raymond Thompson, who is in charge of both KC squads.

The finals are set to be played next week, at a venue to be announced.
