WEST INDIES PLAYERS MISSED THE CUT FOR ICC’S TEST AND ODI TEAMS OF THE YEAR 2015

None of the current West Indian Test or One Day International cricket players were fortunate to be among the selected ICC test and ODI teams release today.

Ranked at eighth and ninth respectively in Test and ODI cricket, the West Indies players were pretty much sitting far outside of the microscope of the selectors.

Veteran Guyanese batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the last West Indies player to make one of these select teams when he was named among the 2012 Test Team.

The hard hitting Chris Gayle who is on recovery road from back surgery, was the latest Caribbean player to make the ODI, having done so in 2009.

The teams were chosen by a specially appointed selection panel, chaired by the ICC’s cricket committee chairman, and former Indian bowler Anil Kumble.

Players were selected based on their performances throughout the Test and ODI formats from September 18, 2014 to September 13, 2015 including performances at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The selection panel included the likes of former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, ex England batsman Mark Butcher, former Australia women’s captain Belinda Clark and Mr. G. Viswanath, Deputy Editor of The Hindu & Sportstar,

Speaking on behalf of the panel Kumble was quoted as saying “I would like to congratulate all the players for their selection in the Test and ODI teams of the year. It is an achievement for each of them to be proud of and a recognition for their good performances in the qualifying period’.

The Test team is comprised mostly of Australian, England and Pakistan players:

English strongman Alastair Cook, for the second time was named as captain, having achieved that feat in 2013.He had earlier led England to a 3-2 Ashes victory during the summer, was named the Test captain of the year

The entire test Team reads David Warner (Aus), Alastair Cook (Eng) (captain) Kane Williamson (NZ), Younis Khan (Pak), Steven Smith (Aus), Joe Root (Eng),Sarfraz Ahmed (Pak) (wicketkeeper), Stuart Broad (Eng), Trent Boult (NZ), Yasir Shah (Pak), Josh Hazlewood (Aus), 12th: Ravichandran Ashwin (Ind)

South Africa’s AB de Villiers was selected as the ODI captain for the first time in this his the fourth inclusion in five years. The rest of the team of the year reads Tillakaratne Dilshan (SL), Hashim Amla (SA), Kumar Sangakkara (SL) (wicketkeeper),Steven Smith (Aus), Ross Taylor (NZ), Trent Boult (NZ), Mohammed Shami (Ind) , Mitchell Starc (Aus), Mustafizur Rahman (Bang), Imran Tahir (SA), 12th: Joe Root (Eng)
