Sebastien Coe,Nike,Oregon,World Championships,

The numerous cases of suspicion and speculation surrounding a number of current and past Track and Field heavyweights keep rolling out.

The latest one being that of conflict of interest claims over the awarding of the 2021 World Championships to the state of Eugene, Oregon. At the heart of it sits the Current IAAF Boss who is trying to clean up the sport he heads.

This newly risen allegation has caused the former Athlete and British Olympic Association chairman to end his 38-year association as ambassador with the USA based Nike Company, a role for which he is reportedly paid over £100,000 a year.

Lord Coe announced he was stepping down from his Nike role at a news conference in Monaco after the IAAF Council meeting. The meeting was the ceremony in which the IAAF World Athletes for 2015 were announced.

Coe was quoted as saying in regards to his Nike role: “The current noise level around it is not good for Nike or the IAAF.”

Questions had intensified this week when the BBC obtained an email that appeared to show Coe had been in discussions with a senior Nike executive over a bid for the 2021 World Athletics championships for Eugene.

The US city was awarded the 2021 World Championships in April without a bidding process, despite interest from the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

Coe also announced he would resign as British Olympic Association chairman after the Rio 2016 Olympics.
