Kingston College secured home wins over Eltham High in the ISSA Under 14 and Under 16 football competitions on Monday to be just a point away from qualification for the semi-finals of both competitions.
In the Under 14 game KC cruised to a 5-0 win but was made to work hard in the Under 16 encounter where they managed to secure all three points courtesy of a Jahmal Pusey strike a minute before time.
Five different scorers were responsible for the win in the U-14 encounter as KC made light work of their opponents, despite having to wait until almost half time to break the deadlock. Dwayne Atkinson opened the scoring two minutes before the interval and Shanthamoi Brown got the second on the stroke of half time.
The second half was barely a few seconds old when captain Michael Allen made it 3-0 before Sajar Blair made it 4-0 in the 46th minute. Okeno Foster made it 5-0 on the stroke of full time as the Purples inched closer to the semi-finals, in a bid to retain their title for the fourth consecutive year.
The Under 16’s did not have it so easy against a determined opponent who made them work over time for the win.
Both teams created a few chances in the first half, the easiest of which fell to the KC team. On the resumption KC dominated the game as they went in search of the winner, but met stout resistance from the visitors.
Just when it appeared that Eltham had done enough to earn a precious point, Pusey struck to set off wild celebrations at Cloverly Park.
Both teams will look to seal their semi-final places with home games again, on Thursday.
