A superb strike from captain Markland “Tinny” Burton was enough to secure an historic win for Praise Tabernacle Christian Academy over Dunrobin Prep in the JISA/Tastee Prep Schools Football Competition on Thursday, on the field of Emmanuel Christian Academy.

The jubilant supporters as well as the purple and yellow clad boys from Praise Tabernacle Christian Academy, were left singing praises after their famous one nil win.

The school is playing in their fifth season in the competition but had never managed a single victory all this time.

Praise Tab was the quicker of the two to settle in the encounter. Striker Matthew Graham had several opportunities to score but was unable to put his chances away. Goalkeeper Joel Ricketts of Praise Tab was a mere spectator for the most of the first half. Despite their dominance, it was late in the first half that Praise Tab’s captain Burton, drove inside the box and unleashed a thunderbolt from the penalty spot, which sizzled past the keeper for a one nil lead.

In the second half, the Dunrobin team changed their formation in an effort to combat the midfield trio of Burton, Nathaneal Smith and and Omar Morgan, but their efforts proved futile.

However, in the final 10 minutes of play, Praise Tab came under a host of attacks from the Dunrobin who were in the hunt for an equalizer, but the boys from Sandringham Avenue remained unyielding and assertive in defense.

Coach Oshane Nation is proud of his boys and has high expectations as he looks forward to the next game.

Burton who is a fan of Arsenal FC in the Barclays Premier League hopes to continue scoring for his school.

“It feels great to score the first goal for my team this year and to help my school win our first match ever. My teammates, the coaches, the parents, everyone is so happy and that makes me feel great. Right now I have goose pimples,” he told Yardie Sports.

Burton says his favourite players is Mesut Ozil and hopes to play for St. Georges College when he goes to high school.
