Kingston College sauntered into the second round of the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup as well as Super Cup and Walker Cup competitions following their second comfortable win over Campion College on Monday.
Rashawn Mackison hit his second hat-trick of the season against the Old Hope Road based institution to guide KC to a 3-0 win, which, along with the Camperdown loss to Jose Marti, meant that the Boys from North Street have won Group G and advance to the Super Cup for the first time.
The game was another one sided affair with Campion trying their best to keep out KC, while the visitors went on the hunt for goals to boost their goal average. Mackison got the early goal that was expected to lead to a goal-fest but that never transpired as the plucky Campion defence along with some outstanding goalkeeping from Christopher Lynch kept the KC forwards at bay.
It was not until near the half time interval that Mackison got his and the team’s second when he finished from a corner kick.
The second half was the Christopher Lynch show as the Campion College shot stopper produced a string of fine saves to deny KC throughout the second half. Point blank saves and finger tip saves kept KC off the score sheet as the tension mounted among the KC ranks.
Mackison got his third midway the half to ease some of the pressure but thereafter Lynch was at it again as he fought bravely to keep the score line modest.
The final whistle did not bring the celebrations expected, until news filtered through that Camperdown had lost to Jose Marti which handed KC group honours and a place in both knock-out competitions.
“It’s a matter of fortune favouring the brave,” said KC coach Ludlow Bernard. “They put themselves in the position (to win) and the luck ran for them. Going forward we really expect much of the same.”
KC will face Camperdown at the Alpha Boys Home field on Friday to complete their first round fixtures before turning their attention to the second round set to begin on October 26th.
