Alia Atkinson tops Hong Kong 100 breaststroke field

The 2015 FINA World Cup series, second cluster got on its way Friday, September 25th – Saturday, at the Victoria Park Swimming Pool – Hong Kong.
Jamaica’s swim queen and reigning 2014 RJR Sportswoman of the Year, Alia Atkinson won the women’s 100m final breaststroke the beating the field by almost two full seconds.

Atkinson touched home in a time of 1:07.91 seconds to. claim the gold. Russia’s Vitalina Simonova came in 2nd in 1:09.63 and China’s Liu Xiaoyu finished in 3rd with her time of 1:09.87.

The 2015 FINA World Championships bronze medalist, improved on her 1.09.75 seconds to garnor 785 ranking points.

Atkinson failed to make the women’s 50m freestyle after finishing 12th overall in a time of 27.02 seconds.

She will splash off in the women’s 50m breaststroke from heat 3 and later in heat two of the women’s 50 Butterfly event on the second day of competition.

In addition to the normal prize money available, there will also be an addition $300,000 split between the top 6 male and top 6 female finishers after the first two meets for the rest of upcoming series.
