Jamaican international Michael Hector has signed for premier league outfit Chelsea FC on deadline day of the transfer window.

The defending champion of the Barclays Premier League has struggled defensively since the start of the season and crashed to their second loss when they were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace at the weekend.

To make matters worse, the game was played at Stamford Bridge, a place where Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, seldom loses games and served to highlight just how bad things have been for the ‘Blues’ in the opening weeks of the season.

Hector, a centre half, has signed a five year deal, from Reading for a reported 4M pounds, but will be loaned back to the club for the rest of the season.

The 23 year old Jamaican international had two solid tournaments for the Reggae Boyz in the summer at the Copa America and the Gold Cup where he hardly put a foot wrong except in the final of the latter. Hector was responsible for Jamaica conceding two quick second half goals against Mexico which cost his team the final and he left the field in tears. Less than two months later however, the former non-league player has joined one of the biggest club’s in Europe.

Hector is expected the join up with the rest of the squad in Jamaica for World Cup qualifiers against Nicaragua this Friday and next Tuesday.
