The Bravo brothers combined superbly for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel to give the Jamaica Tallawahs a one two punch and take them out of their misery in the HERO CPL when they defeated them by 27 runs on Thursday at the Queens Park Oval. Both Bravo brothers produced career best performances in front of their home supporters to book a second semifinal spot with the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The Tallawahs was on top for the power play overs getting three of the Red Steels wickets for just 18 runs. But Darren Bravo and Jason Mohammed combined to wrestle the initiative from the visitors as they put on 80 runs from 60 balls for the fourth wicket. Darren Bravo’s sensational knock of 86 not out from 63 balls, that included four boundaries and six sixes was pivotal in the Red Steel putting up a challenging total of 152/6 from their 20 overs. A pleasing score after a very shaky start.

Mahela Jayawardena who has struggled during the entire tournament opened the batting with Captain Chris Gayle. Jacque Kallis opened the bowling as captain Dwayno Bravo hid Samuel Badree from Chris Gayle this time around. That did not stop the “World Boss of cricket” as he hit three sixes in a knock of 30 from 21 balls, but he fell with the score on 38/1.

Chadwick Walton joined Jayawardena who did not last long as he was wrongly given out caught behind. Jayawardena, in addition to struggling, has had no luck! Walton tried to help steer the Tallawahs towards the total but when he went for 31 in the 17th over, the middle order was again exposed.

At 104/3 and needing just 49 more runs to win, the Tallawahs were still in the game, but again the batting fell away like ten pins as the all too familiar collapse ensued. Wild swings instead of proper batting saw the wicket being hit over and over again as the Red Steel romped to victory on the back of superb bowling by skipper Dwayne Bravo who finished with 5 for 23 from his four overs.

The Tallawahs lost their last eight wickets for just 28 runs as they tumbled out of the competition they won at the very first staging. After the game Tallawahs skipper Chris Gayle announced that he would be out of the game for a while as he would be doing surgery on his troublesome back.
