Former champions the Jamaica Tallawahs were walloped by the Guyana Amazon Warriors at Sabina Park on Sunday when they were beaten by 84 runs to record their second loss in as many days in the HERO CPL. The Amazon Warriors first made 179 for 3 before bowling out the Tallawahs for 95 with more than four overs to spare.

The Warriors owed their total largely in part to a solid opening stand by Lendl Simmons and Assad Fudadin who put on 71 for the first wicket. The pair batted for half the innings before Simmons was caught at long off by Rusty Theron off the bowling of Andre Russell.

Fudadin and Brad Hodge then increased the scoring rate before the opener fell for a well played 54 from 43 balls. The fall of the wicket did very little to temper the Aussie, Hodge, who took a special liking to Russell, blasting 14 runs off one particular over. Hodge eventually ended on 65 not out from 30 balls including six sixes and three fours.

The full house inside Sabina Park thought they would have seen a successful run chase, after the disappointment the day before, when Chris Gayle slammed 10 runs off the first over, including a six and a four. But that was to be about as much as they would celebrate for the evening.

Chadwick Walton went cheaply caught in the deep before Gayle held out at long off from the first delivery bowled by Sunil Narine. The Tallawahs stuttered along to 54 for 5, but Russell gave the home fans a glimmer of hope when he scored a quick fire 14, before he was cleaned bowled at 93 for 6.

The last four wickets fell to Ronsford Beaton for only two runs, including three in one over. For the second time in as many days, the frail batting line up of the Tallawahs was brutally exposed.

The Tallawahs remain in third place on eight points from eight games while the Amazon Warriors are in fifth on six points from as many games. The defending champions, Barbados Tridents continue to lead the tables on ten points from eight games played.
