Peterkaye Green scored twice, after the league’s leading scorer Shantell Thompson opened the scoring for Lennon High school who defeated former champions, Excelsior High 3-0 in the final of the ISSA Schoolgirl Football competition yesterday at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Lennon started out looking the better team and could have had a goal as early as the 6th minute, when Muiranda Hall found herself with space 10 yards from goal but sent her shot wide of the target.

Excelsior then had the their chance to get the go ahead goal went Captain Deneisha Blackwood went by her marker but flashed her shot across the face of goal from 8 yards out.

Tateyanna Pitter skillfully went by two Lennon defenders but failed to get her left footed shot on the target.

Lennon’s Shantell Thompson then found space in the Excelsior 18 yard box but she could not control the ball in time to set up a shot before National Under-20 player, Imanie Richards booted the ball to safety.

Both teams had created the chances to score and lead the contest before the half time break with the best chance of the half falling to Lennon Rena Gordon who skied her shot from 4 yards out, just before the referee blew her whistle.

At the resumption, Excelsior started out looking good and was looking to find a rhythm but Lennon found three goals quickly. Thompson broke the deadlock on 49 minutes, curling home a left side, 23 yard free kick, into the far corner of the Excelsior net.

Lennon doubled their advantage in the 54th minute, Peterkaye Green firing home a powerful free kick from 24 yards that flew into the back of the net, leaving Tiana Schroeter rooted to the spot. Green who had also scored a free kick in the semi-finals, had asked for the responsibility late in the season and repaid her coach’s faith in her abilities.

Green then doubled her tally two minutes later when Excelsior failed to clear a corner kick and Green slotted home from close range. The third goal knocked the wind out of the young Excelsior team as heads dropped.

Excelsior did not create any real goal scoring opportunities and was looking rather down and out with Lennon having a three goal cushion. The game become physical and yellow cards were issued due to some very strong tackles from the girls.
