Former Vere Technical High school standout, now plying her trade at the University of Technology (UTech), Shericka Jackson, is now confident more than ever that she is able to match strides with the big girls in 2015.

Jackson looked very good in her race execution as she won the Women’s 400 open at the UTech’s Classics in a new world leading time of 51.39 seconds. The previous world lead mark was set by Kyra Jefferson of USA, 51.50 seconds.

Lining up in what was judged by her as a pretty good field, with four other local athletes, teammate Janieve Russell, Sprint Tec’s Anastascia Leroy and MVP’S Shericka Williams, she led from start to finish and came home with a lot left in the tank.

Speaking after the race Jackson, she expressed how pleased she was with her performance on the night.

“I know it was a pretty good field, I never underestimated my competitors, but I just went out there and run my own race and eventually I came home strong, so am grateful”.

When quizzed about her growth and development, since departing high school, she was quick to point out that she thinks she is now ready to compete with the best in the world.

“Nothing is impossible, even though it’s my second year out of high school. I can’t have it in mind that I am still in high school, I have to come out and perform like a big girl and compete at my best”.

With her sights set on an exciting track season ahead, Jackson is aiming for much success, and high on her track radar is the upcoming Penns Relay, The World University Games and most of all the World Championship in Beijing, this summer.

“I am looking to make the world champs team, because knowing that when I was a junior athlete, I did not get a Junior World Championship medal. There is the Penns Relay, where I am looking forward to help my team do well and then I am looking forward to World Championship. I am satisfied with times thus far, and each time I run, my aim is to run faster and build on my new personal best.”

Jackson is not ruling out competing at the Jamaica Invitational next month inside the National Stadium, where she could come up against her toughest competition since her senior debut. The likes of National Champion, Novlene Williams Mills, Stephanie McPherson and American Sanya Richards Ross should be amongst those who will face the starter over 400m. She is not sure about which event she will run, but she promises to give her best, in whatever event her coach decide for her to run.
